Kristin Baker

Kristin Baker was born in 1975 in Stamford, Connecticut where she grew up immersed in car racing, watching her father as an amateur driver. She received her BFA from Tufts University and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston in 1998. She earned her MFA in painting from Yale University in 2009, where she studied with Peter Halley.

Only months after receiving her MFA Baker took part in the group show Painting Report as P.S.t. Contemporary Art Center in New York. She had her first solos show at Ditch Projects in 2003 and another the following year at the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris. Since then she has participated in a number of notable group shows including Fight or Right at the Whitney Museum of American Art at Altria in 2004, Open House: Working in Brooklyn at the Brooklyn Museum of Art in 2004., USA Today at The Saatchi Gallery in London in 2006, Francois Pinault’s Sequence 1 at the Palazzo Grass in Venice in 2009, and Abarax America at the Saatchi Gallery in London in 2009. Baker’s work is represented in the public collections of The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York, The Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris, The Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, and the Yale University Art Gallery, New Haven, Connecticut. She is represented by Deitch Projects in New York.
