How many pieces of artwork will be included in the exhibition?
Each artist will submit three works, resulting in an exhibition of over 120 works of art totaling more than $1 million. Artwork for sale will be priced between $1,000 and $75,000. All artwork will be assigned a fixed price that is based upon fair market value.
What is the nature of the artwork?
The artwork for sale is new and has not previously been exhibited, and considered by several of the artists to be their strongest work of the year. Genres include landscapes, still lifes, and figurative work.
What is the method of sale for the artwork?
Artwork will be sold through a lottery system in which interested parties place their ballot in a box assigned to their piece of choice. The lottery will take place at 9:00 p.m., and docents will draw names from the ballot boxes. Names for each piece of artwork will be posted next to that piece in the order in which they were drawn. The person whose name is first on a list is obligated to purchase that piece. If, however, a single collector is the winning bidder on more than one piece, he or she will have the right to refuse the purchase of all but one piece. When a piece of artwork is refused, it will go to the person whose name is listed second. Those rules will apply until there is a confirmed buyer.
Salon Sponsors and Patrons will be able to purchase artwork prior to the gala on June 26, 2004, and are not subject to the lottery system.
Will the art be featured in a catalogue?
There will be a full-color catalog available featuring select artwork, artist biographies and artist statements. Catalogs are complimentary for attendees of the exhibition and sale and can be picked up at the June 26th event. Catalogues are also available for purchase at the museum for $30, or by mail at $35 inclusive of shipping & handling.
What kind of media coverage will Salon d'Arts receive?
An event of this significance -- in part due to its high profile supporters -- holds tremendous news appeal, as evidenced by the extensive coverage received for the past years. Profiles have been featured in The Denver Post, Rocky Mountain News, Southwest Art, 9NEWS, KWGN WB-2, Colorado Expression Magazine, Art & Antiques, and several local papers provided features and support. In 2004, Salon’s media sponsors include NBC 9NEWS, Art & Antiques Magazine, American Art Review, 5280 Magazine, Southwest Art Magazine, American Artist Magazine, Frontier Airlines Magazine, ART Talk, and Art of the West Magazine.
Who are the beneficiaries of the net proceeds?
Half of all proceeds go directly to fulfilling Salon's mission of accessibility to the arts and strengthening Denver's presence in the national arts arena; the other half is invested in fundraising efforts to fulfill the performing arts mission of Colorado Ballet, and the pioneering research of Webb-Waring Institute for Cancer, Aging and Antioxidant Research.
The addition of Webb-Waring Institute in 2004 as a co-beneficiary is a strong match for Salon d’Arts as creativity is the cornerstone of both of our organizations. The Institute's fundamental mission is to discover new knowledge that will lead to preventing disease, and the expense and heartache associated with the world's most pressing health problems. The passion of their Board of Trustees is evidenced by the great resolve shown in making Salon a successful resource for their important mission.
Salon d' Arts is an annual fine art exhibition and sale showcasing the art of the finest representational artists of our time.
