Purpose

Event Description

Annual fine art exhibition and sale with all net proceeds benefiting the arts and sciences. The exhibition was designed in the tradition of the great European art salons of the late nineteenth century and serves as a public forum for fine art produced by artists from all over the world. The exhibition, showcasing over of the world’s most notable representational artists, is free to the public from June 10 through June 30, 2004 at the Colorado History Museum, Denver. In 2004, 100% of all proceeds will benefit Colorado Ballet and Webb-Waring Institute for Cancer, Aging, and Antioxidant Research.

Colorado Ballet Company

The mission of the Colorado Ballet is to contribute to the quality of life in our community through the performance of major national and international dance works, the development of new choreography, and the nurturing of artistic expression. The Company provides top-quality entertainment and a wide variety of educational and outreach programs, fostering a greater understanding and appreciation for the art of dance.

The Colorado Ballet begain in 1961 as a ballet school founded by Lillian Covillo and Freidann Parker. Under the leadership of Artistic Director and CEO Martin Fredmann (a recipient of the prestigious Dance Magazine award) the organization has become one of the state’s most accomplished arts institutions. The Colorado Ballet has evolved to become nationally recognized as one of the premiere regional ballet companies (only five in the U.S. have reached this level of distinction). With a company of 30 professional dancers of national and international acclaim, 25 apprentice dancers, an expansive repertoire, the Academy of Colorado Ballet and scenery and costumes by noted designers, Colorado Ballet is a flourishing and acclaimed dance company.

The Webb-Waring Institute for Cancer, Aging and Antioxidant Research

Founded in 1924, The Webb-Waring Institute for Cancer, Aging and Antioxidant Research is a Denver based not-for profit biomedical research center focused on understanding the cellular imbalances that lead to multiple diseases and aging. The Institute's team of scientists and students are investigating Cancer; Autoimmune diseases; AIDS; lung abnormalities such as the Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) and emphysema; age-related macular degeneration (ARMD), the leading cause of blindness in the elderly; diabetes, and other vascular disorders. The Institute's fundamental approach is to discover new knowledge that will lead to preventing the disability, expense and heartache associated with the world's most pressing health problems.
