PEOPLE Founder : Natalie Rekstad-Lynn Founder's Statement Welcome to the Fifth Anniversary of the Salon d'Arts Exhibition. I feel honored to be part of an exhibit in Colorado that showcases the incredible talent and passion of the participating artists. I am also thrilled that Salon will fortify the work of an essential non-profit organization, Colorado UpLIFT. Salon has two distinct personas. One is the after-hours, "exclusive" side of Salon, with its patron reception, gala, and artwork sale featuring the work of museum held artists. While this aspect of Salon is important to attracting funding and artwork sales revenue, a large part of our identity is our work in the community. Over a three-week period, the exhibition is open to the public free of charge during regular museum hours, and is consistently full of visitors, and humming with activities like group tours, educational programs, bi-lingual programs, tactile tours for the visually impaired, children's programs, and more. It is this persona that is the heart of Salon d'Arts.

Another important goal of Salon is to generate awareness and funding for our non-profit beneficiaries. We are fortunate to be working with Colorado UpLIFT as our community outreach mission dovetails beautifully with what they accomplish in the inner city. Society labels some children "at risk," but I wonder if these kids accept, or are even aware of, this label. My guess is that the inner-city kids that Colorado UpLIFT serves wouldn't think to label themselves at all; for they have been given the gift of knowing that they are not limited by their circumstances. Colorado UpLIFT acts with skill and compassion when these children say, "We are the future. See us clearly. Help us with our struggles. Notice our strengths. Notice us. We are the future." It is a pleasure to help Colorado UpLIFT open doors for these extraordinary children. To produce an exhibition of this magnitude, the community's support is essential. I am grateful to our Chairs, Mark and Rachel Brown, who have been instrumental in attracting support from the philanthropic and business community. Further, without the generosity of our sponsors and patrons, Salon would not continue to thrive. I am also grateful for the artists' support and participation, establishing Salon among the top annual exhibitions in the country. It is a thrill to be a part of the solution -- Cheers to Colorado UpLIFT and to our generous artists, for agreeing to be our partners in this endeavor, and to our patrons for supporting the 2006 Salon d'Arts Exhibition. Together, we have made a difference.
